Trips will go faster with entertainment - here are a few of our top travel products.

Take a book

Try some seasonal travel with a few Halloween books. Four to eight year-olds will love The Haunted House Sticker Book and The Everything Kid’s Monster Book is packed full of puzzles, games and trivia you never knew you wanted to know…

Road movies for kids

If your children are lucky enough to have a DVD player in their car, purchasing a couple of family road movies might be just the ticket. Lassie is a family favourite, as are the animals from The Incredible Journey . The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour is unexpectedly engaging for the four to nine year old contingent.

We like the Servis Twin In-Car DVD screens which can connect to a player in the front seat, so limiting the amount of rows your children can have about what’s on next. Prism do a totally portable 7” screen DVD player and are currently offering a few free DVDs for £69.99, while for £20 more, Akai do a 7” version that can be mounted in-car if required.

Toys and games

Hasbro do a range of travel toys from £4.99, including Monopoly, Cluedo, Operation, Battleship and Guess Who, for younger kids. Mattel do the same for Scrabble ( Radica have an electronic word scrabble, too). For under £5 you could do worse than this glorified version of I Spy for the over 6’s aptly named ‘Are We There Yet’ , or keep your toddler thoroughly entertained with the Car Seat Activity Centre (£23.99) or the cheaper (£9.99) Lap Doodle Board . The Travel Play Cushion will keep the pre-schooler amused for hours and then give her something to nap on – clever enough to spend £25 on! For babies, the Lamaze Lullaby Elephant can be attached to a car seat and will keep baby amused for hours with her songs and moving trunk.

The ultimate car tidies

Just getting there is hard work – you don’t want to have to spend the hour after you arrive sweeping out crushed crayons and crisps. These Side Rider pockets clip on to the side of any car seat. An organiser for the back of the seat is indispensable for toys and maps, whilst the kids will love a box car tidy which acts as a little table for them to doodle on.

Happy driving, and don’t forget to ask your kids about the many, creative verses to ‘the wheels on the bus’ if the DVD breaks!
